Epstein Suggested That if Trump Felt Cornered Like a Rat He Might Bomb Iran

Claim: Epstein Suggested That if Trump Felt Cornered Like a Rat He Might Bomb Iran
Rating: True
Finding: December 2018 iMessages in the DOJ files have Epstein warning not to corner a rat and speculating Trump might bomb Iran. The graphic is a paraphrase, not a verbatim quote.

Meme quoting Jeffrey Epstein as saying if Trump feels cornered like a rat he will bomb Iran just to create a diversion
Meme quoting Jeffrey Epstein as saying if Trump feels cornered like a rat he will bomb Iran just to create a diversion

Claim: Epstein suggested that if Trump felt cornered like a rat he might bomb Iran

Verdict: True as a paraphrase of private iMessages. False as a verbatim quote.

  • The X post from @Parodyjeffx (Aug. 9, 2026) asked whether Epstein really said the line on the graphic. A reply from @grok said the substance matches December 2018 iMessages in the DOJ Epstein files. The graphic itself is not a word-for-word quote. Epstein suggested the idea. He did not type that sentence.
  • What the DOJ files actually show: On Dec. 20, 2018, the same day President Trump's Syria withdrawal announcement blew up in Washington and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis resigned, iMessages from Epstein's Mac (device NYC024365.aff4, user path /Users/Jeffrey/Library/Messages) speculated that Trump was under pressure and might start a larger fight.
  • A forensic screenshot thread (EFTA01614499) is the cleanest copy. The device-owner bubbles, on the account jeeitunes@gmail.com, include: "I always urge people not to corner a rat. they become extremely dangerous and unpredictable" and, a few minutes later, "We only had 2k troops there, if he were to bomb Iran, they would be slaughtered." The other party, labeled Terje, answered "My God! Is he that cornered?" and "Oh! That would be crazy!!"
  • Who "we" is: The 2k troops are U.S. forces in Syria, not Israeli troops. The whole thread is about Trump pulling Americans out of Syria. One message earlier, Epstein guessed Trump "doesn't want them there if a much bigger operation might put them in jeopardy." Then he said if Trump bombed Iran, "they" (those troops) "would be slaughtered." PBS that same night cited "the 2,000-odd American troops in Syria." Trump was the one ordering that pullout, so "we" is the United States.

  • The same morning's exported log (EFTA01211330) attributes more lines to Self / jeeitunes@gmail.com, including "He needs a large diversion" at 11:46:56 UTC and "Cornering a rat, never a good idea" at 11:54:12 UTC. Those two sit in a parallel chat file on the same Mac (source tag [4]), not in the Terje screenshot thread (source tag [3]). The meme mashes both threads into one sentence.

  • Who "Self" is: The export footer points at /Users/Jeffrey/Library/Messages/chat.db on that Mac. In the same screenshot thread, Terje later wrote "Dear Jeff" and signed "Warmest Terje." That is Epstein's device talking as Jeff, not a random third party.
  • Who Terje is: The forensic UI labels the contact Terje. He was in Moscow that week (Red Square, dinner with a minister for economy, London the next day), said Geir Pedersen "used to work for me," and said the Syria pullout was "completely opposite to what I was told in the White House." That matches Norwegian diplomat Terje Rød-Larsen, then president of the International Peace Institute and a documented close Epstein associate in the released files.
  • Where the meme overclaims: Epstein wrote "if he were to bomb Iran," not "he will bomb Iran." He was guessing about Trump's Syria move and the Mueller pressure, not issuing a public prediction. The "large diversion" line is his private theory, in a second chat, about why Trump might want a bigger spectacle.

In plain language:

Yes. Epstein suggested that idea in private December 2018 iMessages. The graphic is a compressed paraphrase, not a quote he actually typed.
