President Trump signed an Executive Order titled “Ending Taxpayer Subsidization of Biased Media” on May 1, 2025 to direct the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to cease direct and indirect federal funding to National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). The executive order states Americans have an interest in funding “only fair, accurate, unbiased, and nonpartisan news coverage” and that CPB has no claim to taxpayer subsidies. The EO expresses that CPB violated its statute of impartiality that forbids them to “contribute to or otherwise support any political party.” 47 U.S.C. 396(f)(3); see also id. 396(e)(2).
