On September 30, 2023, while House Democrats were attempting to delay a vote on a continuing resolution to fund the government with a midnight deadline, when in the Cannon House Office Building, Bowman pulled a fire alarm which caused the building to be evacuated.

Bowman’s office released an official response and statement regarding the incident and claimed he had pulled the fire alarm by accident. Their statement is included below.
