Kevin McCarthy failed to get the required 218 votes to become Speaker of the House after thirteen separate votes. Criticism of McCarthy ranges but a growing number of GOP and newly elected House GOP members see him as more of the same establishment that has failed to produce results on topics like the budget, national debt and the border crisis, as well as enacting term limits and banning stock trading for members of congress. Throughout the day members of the GOP on both sides of the issue had harsh criticisms for each other and refused to yield to one another. Lauren Boebert and Matt Gaetz each gave interviews as to why they would not vote for McCarthy to become Speaker of the House.
