In a video circulating on August 09, 2024, International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach responded to reporters’ questions about allowing men (individuals with XY chromosomes) to compete in women’s division boxing by insinuating no such definitive test yet exists. He went on to state that the IOC is open to testing athletes gender if an accurate scientific way to test can be found. Current scientific testing simply tests for which chromosome pair the person has to determine gender (XX female, XY male).
