Louisiana Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator held a press conference during October in 2017. During this press conference he lamented the fact that some of the well behaved non violent criminals were going to be released early, including those on work-release. This would reduce the headcount of incarcerated people available to assist with free or discounted labor around the prison to support the general operations of the prison itself. In the press conference he said:
“That’s the ones that can pick up trash, the work release programs. But guess what? Those are the ones that they’re releasing. In addition to the – in addition to the bad ones, and I call these bad, in addition to them, they’re releasing some good ones that we use every day to – to wash cars, to change oil in our cars, to cook in the kitchens, to do all that where we save money. Well, they’re gonna let them out.”
