In 2021, a group called the Radicalization Awareness Network, wrote a report, with a filename which indicates a February 15, 2021 publishing date, titled:

It’s not funny anymore. Far-right extremists’ use of humour

In this report, they discuss many aspects of the use of memes on the internet and throughout political circles.

They specifically feature three meme characters, including both the Doge meme and the Pepe meme. A sample image is featured below.


They also discuss the term redpilling as well as how the memes create an inclusive culture between participants.
