On February 23, 2023, NPR’s CEO John Lansing announced that the network would:
lay off roughly 10% of its current workforce – at least 100 people – and eliminate most vacant positions.
The reasoning behind the decision was the reduction of advertising dollars, specifically for NPR podcasts, as well as the poor financial outlook for the media industry in general.
