On October 2022, in a recorded speech, Vladamir Zelesnsky said:
What should NATO do? Make it impossible for Russia to use nuclear weapons. What is important, I once again appeal to the international community, as I did before February 24: We need pre-emptive strikes so that [the Russians] know what will happen to them if they use them [nuclear weapons], and not the other way around. Don’t wait for Russia’s nuclear strikes and then say: ‘Oh, since you did this, take that from us!’
After the fact, Serhii Nykyforov, Zelensky’s spokesperson reportedly attempted to walk back the comments by saying Zelensky was actually calling for sanctions, not missile strikes. Although we were not able to independently verify this particular statement.
